CharGriller Duo Grill & Smoker

chargriller_duogrill.jpgOle St. Nick was very very good to BBQHub.com this year. He brought me a CharGriller Duo LP Gas and Smoker/Grill Combo.  What a great way to start out the year. While technically grilling steaks is not really “bbq” it still is a great way to celebrate Christmas. The setup has an LP Gas Grill on the left side and a Charcoal Grill on the right side. I am going to get the smoker box which comes as an accessory next month. The box attaches to the right side and turns it into a smoker. In addition there is a gas burner attached for keeping those baked beans nice and warm.

Features include:

  • Porcelain Coated Cast Iron
  • Stainless Steel Thermometers
  • Chrome Plated Warming Racks
  • 40,800 BTU’s
  • Stainless Steel Tube Burners
  • 12,000 BTU Side Burner
  • Cast Brass Side Burner
  • Adjustable Height Charcoal Grate
  • Side Fire Box For Smoking

I am looking forward to doing my first brisket on this new setup. You will notice my old standby round grill to the left. It has served me well and will continue to use it. For the price, mine was $299.00 at Lowes, this is a great deal. (LP Gas was extra).

If you can’t find it at Lowes’s, the other two spots I know of are Academy Sports, and Kroger Stores- which means FredMeyers stores Here in Washington. At least online…

I just bought one of these beauties at Lowe’s ($299, plus $56 for the side fire box for smoking) in San Diego. Set it up and used it this week to smoke several different types of fish. Next weekend, it’ll be pork ribs.

I am completely impressed. It is quite big, but I love having the convenience of a gas grill outdoors…and am a total charcoal fan but during the week I have to do the quick routine. The smoker works great, plus serves as a second charcoal grill when you need the added space.

I am a total fan and the price is hard to believe for all that this grill duo/or trio with the added firebox combo has to offer. Nice job Char-Griller!

Forgot to mention, for those of you still looking for the Duo, the Lowe’s web site said not one of the eight or so stores in my city had one…they didn’t even list the product online.

But I called the store nearest me and they had eight in stock. Call around, do not rely on the Lowe’s website for accurate stock.

Just a tip in case it helps.

I got mine for Christmas ‘08 and I love it! I added the sfb to mine. I have grilled cedar planked salmon and steaks on the propane side and smoked tons…well maybe not tons but a lot of sausage, chicken, baby backs and pork steaks on the charcoal side. I love this thing! I am constantly online looking for more recipes! I have found a new passion!

I am a backyard bbq master, i own 9 pig cookers, 7 of which i made myself. I bought 1 of these duo, and they are awsome. The way they perform, from temp control, to gas, to smoking is terrific. its an easy grill for anyone to use, and for those who are avid grillers will really enjoy what this thing offers.

How easily does the additional side firebox mount? do you need to cut a hole in the side of the charcoal smoker?

I had to pound on the “Knock out” just to mount the side smoker. I use it theis weekend and it worked fine but is was a major pain to get it mounted. I do like the grill but have only used it three times.

I just got finished putting the firebox on the grill. Trust me, have the store you buy it at install the firebox for you. On mine the punchout was not cut thru and I dented in the whole side of the grill pounding it off. I called customer service, and they said they would send me a new grill bottom, so that is a good thing. All in all looks to be a great grill. I am going to cure it tonight and start smoking this weekend.
